Greg Hackett Doubts Ryan Garcia’s Focus Vs Barrios

Hackett believes that Ryan’s wealth makes it hard for anyone to tell him anything, because he’s not responsive the way a person would be if they weren’t sitting on a huge fortune at 26.

“It’s hard to take Ryan serious right now. He does a lot of other things outside of boxing. If you’re going to be a fighter, get ready,” said coach Greg Hackett to YSM Sports Media about Ryan Garcia.

Hackett isn’t the only one who can’t take Ryan seriously. Many fans and boxers view him in the same way, believing he’s just going through the motions now with his career. He’s young and rich. His net worth is $50 million, and it is likely to double in the near future if he stays active, fighting twice a year.

“It’s hard to talk about it [Garcia vs. Barrios fight] when he’s on late night with streamers. Yeah, that’s around the corner,” said Hackett when asked if Ryan should be in camp, February 21st. This fight, he should be focused because if he wins, he’ll be champion at 147.”

Ryan definitely isn’t what you’d call a ‘gym rat,’ as he prefers to work out at home in his spacious mansion with his marble floors in Los Angeles, California. Many fans blame Garcia’s loss to Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero on his training at home rather than in a gym.

That was a bad match-up from the get-go, and Kingry would have had trouble with the size and power of Rolly. The size advantage that Romero had in that fight was colossal. He looked like a junior middleweight fighting a 140-pounder.

“He needs something like that. He’s never been a world champion. I think he’s hung up on the entertainment aspect of it,” said Hackett about Ryan Garcia. “I guess he’s reached a point where it’s hard to tell him stuff because he’s made so much money. He is a superstar when it comes to boxing. So, I guess he figures he made it.”

If Garcia captures a world title, his purses and popularity will soar. It won’t matter that he picked up his title from the perceived weakest link at 147, Barrios. Fans will still gravitate to Ryan, and the money he’ll make in his next fight will be massive.

Even if he doesn’t win a world title against Barrios, he’ll continue to be popular. His management will rebuild him with some fighters that are made to order for him to beat. He’ll be right back on top, fighting for world titles.

“In boxing, if you lose, they write you off. But a kid like him, they keep giving him chances, because all he’s got to do is comb his hair to the side, clean his face up, and he looks like an innocent kid again,” said Hackett about Ryan.

What Hackett is failing to see is that Garcia is a social media star, which hugely helps his boxing career. So, even when he suffers losses, fans still want to see him fight because of his huge following on Instagram, X, TikTok, and YouTube. If he didn’t have any of that, he would be just as invisible as your typical prelim undercard fighter.
