Floyd Schofield Jr. Calls Davis Vs Ortiz A True 50 50 Fight

Floyd Schofield Jr. believes the upcoming fight between Keyshawn Davis and Jamaine Ortiz is far closer than the public conversation suggests.

Schofield said he views the January 31 bout as a true “50 50” fight, rejecting the idea that Davis is a clear favorite. His reasoning centered on two factors that often get lost in promotion. Davis has been inactive, and he is making his first appearance at junior welterweight after spending his career at lightweight.

Davis enters the fight with name recognition and Olympic credentials, including a silver medal from the 2020 Games. That background has helped fuel expectations, but Schofield questioned how much it should matter at this stage. He noted that Davis has not faced consistent resistance as a professional and has yet to prove himself against an opponent capable of dragging him into the later rounds.

Ortiz arrives with less promotional support but with experience that Schofield believes is being overlooked. He has fought at the weight, has gone rounds with capable opposition, and has already been through high-level fights earlier in his career where durability and composure mattered. Schofield said those traits tend to matter more than predictions once the fight settles into a rhythm.

The bout will take place on the undercard of the Teofimo Lopez vs Shakur Stevenson event, giving both fighters a visible platform. Davis has publicly predicted a stoppage victory, comments Schofield described as routine talk rather than proof. He said fighters say those things often, but fights rarely follow scripts.

Schofield also noted that popularity can influence perception if a fight goes the distance. In that scenario, Ortiz may need to be clearly decisive to avoid leaving room for doubt. Davis, by contrast, enters with momentum and expectation on his side.

In Schofield’s view, that imbalance adds another layer to the fight. Reputation may shape the build-up, but it will not decide the rounds. He said the bout will come down to who handles the work once it starts, not who talks better beforehand.
