Influencer Yulia Burtseva has died after undergoing cosmetic surgery. She was 38.
Russian news outlet MSK1 reported that the influencer underwent a cosmetic surgery at a private clinic in Moscow on Sunday, January 4. She was rushed to the hospital after her condition got worse and later pronounced dead.
The Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Moscow has opened a criminal case to investigate potential negligence charges, MSK1 reported and cited the Moscow Investigative Committee.
“Investigators from the Moscow Investigative Committee are working at the scene,” a translated statement by the Moscow Investigative Committee and obtained by MSK1 read. “Necessary official and medical records will be seized shortly. A number of forensic examinations, including a medical one, are being ordered.”
The outlet also reported that Burtseva shared a video to VK, a Russian social media platform, on the morning of her surgery from a coffee shop in Moscow. Translated text over the clip read, “Good morning Moscow😘.”
The influencer, who amassed more than 73,000 Instagram followers, documented her family life online. She lived in Naples, Italy, with husband Giuseppe and her daughter, per her Instagram bio.
Burtseva’s last Instagram post before her death was shared on December 5, featuring a video of her and her daughter. “😂😂 Russian language is special, so it requires a special facial expression,” the caption read.
In the comments section of her post, users have since shared their condolences.
“Oh my 🙁 what a pity for my husband and daughter,” one user wrote in a translated comment, while another added in a translated message, “That’s a pity … I’ve been subscribed for years… I enjoyed watching her stories 😢😢😢.”
A third translated message read, “What a horror….. Just read this on the news. I couldn’t believe it, I reread it several times. Such a bright, pleasant in every way girl❤️ What a pity…. May the kingdom of heaven rest to her. 🙏🙏🙏.”
Prior to her death, Burtseva had been candid about her upbringing. In April 2022, she reflected on how her childhood was different from Giuseppe’s.
“Giuseppe and I are almost the same age, one year difference. We often talk about childhood, comparing how we grew up, what games we played, what we were interested in and so on,” she wrote via Instagram at the time. “With relatively similar financial capabilities of our families, our childhood was different. Different countries, different customs.”
She continued, “I really liked to walk every day in the yard, to play Cossacks robbers, I couldn’t go home, otherwise I’d be ‘chased.’ Giuseppe was almost always at home with his family. There are no playgrounds, and mom has a lot of household chores to go somewhere for a walk, fresh air on the balcony😅. But on the weekend they went to the islands for swimming, to water parks, on a tour of castles (of which, by the way, are a lot in Naples).”
While Burtseva wrote that her family “enjoyed vegetables and fruits in the summer, and overall the diet was not very varied, but tasty,” she noted that Giuseppe “always had plenty of everything.”
“Parents tried to force him to eat strawberries, for example, but he didn’t want to,” she wrote. “My family and I liked to go to the river to swim, or to the village to visit our relatives, it was a holiday for us. Giuseppe and his parents traveled through Italy and other European countries by car, it was accessible.”
She continued, “I dreamt that when I grew up I would fly on a plane to the sunny country, or go to Disneyland, and for Giuseppe it was all ordinary. Notwithstanding, I wouldn’t trade my childhood for anything else. It was a happy time🙏.”
